Altering perspectives and altering beliefs requires metacognition at the very least. I would add meta-emotional awareness to this skill set idea. And, I would add meta-planning of strategies pertaining to each of your next steps in life for your next best evolved moment.

When reworking your identity that was molded by abuse or trauma, you need these skills so you can 1) experience your thoughts and feelings, then 2) observe them from different angles or points of view, and then 3) choose which thought patterns and emotional responses best serve your evolving personality and best serve your strategies helping you create your best next future self and your best next future situation.
